Extend It

Whilst extensions are much easier than renovations it is often necessary to ensure that the additions match well with the original. Even if the extension is separate to the main structure this can be an important issue if there is exposed stone, old rendering, wooden beams, older style windows or an existing roof to match. If the extension is attached to an existing building then these issues become even more relevant.

At Bati-Build we expect to be judged not just on the part we build but on its effect on the property as a whole.

Attaching an extension will give rise to other considerations of a more technical nature. Any buildings which do not share the same foundations are liable to move relative to each other because of movement in the sub-soil. Furthermore any buildings made of different materials can have differing expansion rates (it can get very hot under the Provencal sun). It is important therefore to allowing for this movement when attaching two structures together.

At Bati-Build we expect to be judged on the effectiveness of our work over the years to come and not just on the day we finish the contract.

If you decide to extend your property you will need to get your planning permission first and then get some quotes for building the extension. As always there are some pitfalls to be avoided and you should read the Extend It section for more details.

Finally check out the Insurance section for some important information on how to insure your extension.
